Attention!

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has issued new guidelines for employees working in NCDOT-controlled work zones. The first of these guidelines will become effective in July 2010, when all persons engaged in flagging operations will be required to have certification of flagger training. Although not an OSHA standard, NCDOL compliance officers can use the NCDOT guidelines as a basis for issuing citations under the General Duty Clause. Additionally, NCDOT engineers may shut down operations if the flaggers are not certified under these new guidelines.
